Complementing our last publication on epoxy resins, another group, Kumara, Falzona, Kuna, Wilson, Graninger and Hawkins of Queen’s University, Belfast and Monash University, Australia has shown that the addition of 2 wt% CNC to glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin yielded increases of 56% in storage modulus, 50% in flexural modulus, 55% in flexural strength, 14% in tensile modulus and 24% in tensile strength. Again, SEM showed evidence of the strengthened interface created by CNC in these fibre-reinforced composites.
